Employer: The Walt Disney Company - Parks and Resorts segment
Department: Industrial Engineering Department
Job Title: Industrial Engineer
High School: South Side High School
Industrial Engineer in the Industrial Engineering Department – As an industrial engineer at Walt Disney World, I support all operating areas at the theme park by identifying areas of efficiency opportunity, implementing solutions to improve efficiency and reduce Guest wait time, and develop reporting tools to help measure these improvements.
Growing up, the subject of math just made sense to me and the homework was always fun and enjoyable, instead of boring and difficult. However, I always thought the only career that being good at math would lead to was becoming a math teacher, which was not something I thought suited me. This is why I originally applied to go to college as a Psychology major. Once a few teachers at South Side learned what my plan was, they started talking to me about all the other career possibilities that were out there for someone that had an analytical mind like me. After they showed me all the possible paths I could take, I was encouraged to switch my major to Engineering and couldn’t have been happier with my decision. I truly couldn’t imagine being anything else in this world besides an Industrial Engineer.
